Nokia and Microsoft are bringing a number of productivity focused applications to the Symbian Belle platform. They are intended to complement the existing tools and applications on Symbian so as to provide "the best possible mobile enterprise experience".

The updates comprises:

Microsoft Lync 2010, a re-branded and substantially updated version of the existing Office Communicator. It provides secure corporate instant messages and presence.
Microsoft OneNote, which is a rich note taking and information management tool. It is part of the Office 2010 Suite.

Microsoft PowerPoint Broadcaster, which allows viewing of broadcast presentations directly from PC to mobile (e.g. when on a conference call).
Microsoft Document Connection, which provides a single point from which to access Office documents from the local file system, in email attachments and on remote SharePoint servers.
An updated version of Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, which brings improved search capabilities, an integrated conversation vew and support for multiple Exchange accounts.
The update will be delivered through the Software update application and is expected to be available in the fourth quarter.

Microsoft and Nokia are working together to provide mobile device management of Belle devices through Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2012. No additional information was available, but a further announcement will be made in due course.
In the first half of 2012, native Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications will be released. In addition, there will be further updates to the other applications. For example, SharePoint sync will be added to OneNote.

In case you are not familiar with Evernote, here is a bit of an introduction. Evernote is used to capture thoughts, ideas, tasks, business cards, plane tickets, meeting notes, websites, and just about anything you want captured, stored, and made searchable in the future. There are desktop clients for Mac and Windows, along with mobile clients for iPhone, Windows Mobile, WebOS, Android, and BlackBerry devices.


There are free and premium (this is what I pay for) options for Evernote and I imagine that most people can get by just fine with a free account. I think the product is so compelling and useful that I want to support them with my money even if I don t use all the features of the premium service. The premium services is $45 per year and gives you 500MB of uploads per month, more file upload support, advanced collaboration, and enhanced security. Premium accounts are also free of promotions and ads that may appear on free accounts.

Before today I have been able to get notes into Evernote by taking photos of business cards, handwritten notes, documents, signs, etc. and emailing them to my special Evernote email address. I could then use the web interface to try to search and view notes, but it definitely was not a clean and simple solution. With Evernote Mobile you can create new text, snapshot (photo), and audio notes and upload files to your Evernote account. The only other client I have seen with File support is Windows Mobile since the iPhone has no directory/file access and is locked down.
With the text note creation you will see fields for a note title, what notebook you want to upload to, any tags you want to assign to the note, and the actual note text field. After taking a photo and recording an audio clip
you will then be taken back to a field to enter some text into the snapshot or audio note. There are discard and save buttons at the bottom to upload notes or cancel them if you change your mind. BTW, you can create text notes and snapshot notes offline with this client in case you are out of signal range and want to create a new note.

User should be able to check for new updates manually from the Account View; and the app automatically checks once a day for new updates...

Calculations are handled in clever templates (20 available), which work like solvers in a spreadsheet and are particularly useful for repeat calculations and "what if" simulations.
• it includes a currency converter where the exchange rates of up to 48 currencies are stored. You can select the 48 currencies out of a list of more than 100, and display them in the order you want, on several pages. Exchange rates can be updated directly via an internet connection (disclaimer).

How many times in a day do you open a calculator for a simple percentage calculation? How many times do you need to re-do the same calculation, changing one figure only? Now you can do it the clever way on your smartphone: open one of the BusFin screens of Finanz, enter 2, 3 or 4 data, and let Finanz calculate the missing number, with the minimal number of key strokes.

The good news is that if you want to change one data and re-do the calculation, you will also do it with a minimal number of strokes. And you can "reverse" any calculation, like with the "solver" of a spreadsheet: "what should this parameter be, if I want the result to be this instead of that, all other things being equal...?" Currency conversion: enter a number, highlight one of the currency buttons and press OK. The amount is instantly converted in the 47 other currencies (on most other converters you would need to select currency A first, then currency B, before you can do anything). Exchange rates are updated via internet connection on a simple menu command.

DCF (Discounted Cash Flows) analysis: create a list of dated cash flows and calculate Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Net Present Value (NPV). You can easily create fixed amount regular cash flows (monthly, quarterly or annual) and add exceptional amounts at any date, then modify and re-do the calculations...
