The world's most famous hedgehog is back in the second half of his exciting adventure!

Sonic the Hedgehog: Part 2 brings you the concluding three zones of the original SEGA Megadrive classic - Labyrinth Zone, Star Light Zone and Scrap Brain Zone. It's your job to help Sonic overcome tough new obstacles and defeat the evil Dr. Robotnik and his giant crusher machine!

Everyone knows him. It's Sonic the Hedgehog, and he's back on your mobile and better than ever.

Part Two of Sonic the Hedgehog does nothing to better it's predecessor; it's more like simply the next chapter in a classic book. No, more like the next chapter in a DVD movie remake of a classic book. In this case, the classic book is the SEGA Genesis/Megadrive game, and this is the remake - the same game but much, much smaller. The classic gameplay remains intact; this is the Sonic you've always loved and the little blue hedgehog remains as fun as ever.

You know the drill. Even if you haven't played the outstanding first game in the series, you'll pick things up pretty quickly. You, Sonic the spiky blue-haired hedgehog, has to battle the evil Dr. Robotnik and foil his plans to capture the land's animals. You must free the animals, and collect as many rings and powerups along the way as possible! There are three zones of four levels each so plenty of 'meat on the bones', so to speak (a lot of gameplay to be had!).

It really is 'pick up and play' at it's finest. My younger brother, who himself never played any of the original arcade platformers in the series, took about five minutes before he fully picked up how to play the game, not to mention the fact that he was really enjoying himself too. It's simple - use the keys 4 and 6 to move left and right, press 5 to jump and 8 to crouch. It plays like every platformer should - move frantically through the levels as quickly as possible, jumping on the enemies and collecting rings and other bonuses (like the chaos emeralds, which I can't say too much about...) while of course trying not to get hit yourself. It's fast, it's frantic and makes for some darn good fun.

The graphics are what drew me in. The developers have made no compromises, Sonic Part Two looks great and as good as it ever did on home consoles. There is a bit of slowdown, particularly in the water levels and when things get really hectic, but on the whole the graphics have been done very, very well indeed, and you can tell by just looking at them briefly that the team at Glu have ensured that the game retains the 'Sonic' look as much as possible - and they have succeeded, this game looks identical to the original that it's based on.
The sound is also pretty good, the different tunes for each level will keep you entertained and although there aren't many sound effects to be heard, for a port of an old game it sounds good and retains the original music.

If there is one criticism to make of this game it's the frustration factor, checkpoints are few and far between and quite often you'll get quite far into a level only to be forced to start it all again. This can happen again and again, time after time, and it does get a bit grating. This is a minor gripe however and most of the time you'll find that things will go your way, if you're careful enough that is (or just really lucky).

In conclusion, how can you not like this game? Sonic the Hedgehog Part Two provides some of the most fun times that can be had on your mobile. Get this if you've already played Part One, and if you haven't, get both!
